PDA Move

Last updated: 2026-08-14

1. Scenario

Move transfers inventory from one location to another. The PDA supports two entry points: query an existing move order by number to continue, or scan a source location on-site to start a new move. The work page supports continuing from drafts, which helps when the source and target locations are far apart; lines show status icons for verification.

Prerequisites

  1. Sign in to the warehouse where the move is performed; the warehouse must match the stock to move.
  2. Source location, target location, and product barcodes are readable.
  3. Verify that physical goods belong to the scanned source location before starting a new on-site move.
  4. Moves do not change total stock, only location distribution.

2. Steps

2.1 Start from a source location

  1. Scan the source location directly on the GWMS PDA-Move home page.
  2. The system opens the inventory-query page in move mode, showing that location's inventory (see PDA Inventory Query).
  3. On the inventory-query page, tap the 【Start Move】 button at the top right.
  4. In the 【Start New】 confirm dialog "From Location [location code] / Do you want to start a new move operation?", tap 【Confirm】.
  5. The system creates a move order (status To Do), opens the New Move work page, and automatically shows the New Movement entry dialog.

If the scan on the Move home page is not a location, the PDA prompts "Scan location to start inventory move".

Step 2, "automatically opens the inventory-query page on scan," relies on the DT50's scan integration (see PDA Quick Start 3.1 Known limitations on unverified devices). On an unverified device, the scanned content is typed into the input field but does not trigger the automatic transition; tap 【Query】 manually to continue.

Start Move Confirm Dialog

Legend: ① dialog title 【Start New】, showing the source location code; ② 【Confirm】 button. Confirming creates the move order and opens the work page.

2.2 Enter move lines

When the New Movement create-line dialog is already open, enter the move line as follows:

  1. Scan or type the GSKU/SKU; the system identifies the product and fills it in. When one barcode matches multiple SKUs, a selection dialog appears.
  2. The dialog shows "Total inventory" and "Locked inventory" for that SKU at the source location.
  3. Enter the target location, move quantity, and remarks. Source and target locations can also be tapped to pick from the location-selection dialog by warehouse/zone/location.
  4. Tap submit. The system creates the move line and completes the inventory move immediately.
  5. Validation:
    • Source location required, target location required, GSKU/SKU required, source and target cannot be the same.
    • Move quantity must be greater than 0 and cannot exceed the movable quantity (total inventory − locked inventory).
    • When there is no movable inventory, the prompt says "No movable inventory at this location."

Draft note

  • Every entry in the dialog is saved to the draft immediately. Inventory does not move until you submit, and backing out by accident or leaving the work page does not lose what you entered.
  • When the source and target locations are far apart, you can first scan the source location and GSKU at the source location, then walk to the target location and scan or enter the target location before submitting.

New Movement Entry Dialog

Legend: The New Movement dialog lets you enter GSKU, source location, target location, quantity, and remarks before creating the move line.

2.3 Continue a move order

  1. Open GWMS PDA-Move.
  2. Enter the move-order number at the top and tap 【Query】, or directly scan a move-order number starting with MV followed by 10 digits.
  3. The two paths behave differently: 【Query】 filters the list by number but still shows a list, so you tap a row to open it; scanning a full move-order number opens that order's work page directly, or shows "Move order not found: <number>".
  4. With no number entered, the list paginates all move orders. Pull down to refresh and scroll up to load more; reaching the bottom shows "No more".
  5. Tap a sheet to open by status:
    • To Do, Processing, Done: open the move work page to continue or view.
    • Cancelled: a dialog shows "Movement order has been cancelled" and cannot be opened.
  6. After the move work page opens, you can review submitted lines and their status, then continue adding lines or finalizing the current move order.

New Move Work Page

Legend: The New Move work page lists submitted lines. The example shows one completed line with its source location, target location, quantity, and success icon.

Continue an existing move order

  1. When you open an existing move order from query results or by scanning the move-order number, the page does not open the New Movement create-line dialog automatically.
  2. To continue an unsubmitted draft: single-tap the draft row at the top of the line list. The dialog reopens with the source location, GSKU, quantity, and remarks already saved in the draft, so you only fill in what is missing and submit.
  3. To add a line unrelated to the draft: scan the source location on the work page. This clears the current draft and keeps only the newly scanned source location — the GSKU, quantity, and remarks in the draft are not kept. If you still need the draft, tap the draft row and submit it first, then scan the new source location.
  4. A Done move order is view-only; do not add lines to it.
  5. Scanning something that is not a location shows "Scan From Location to start new movement.". If tapping the draft row shows the same prompt, the app has not loaded this warehouse's location data. Reselect the current warehouse under 【Me】, or sign out and sign in again, then continue; the draft content is not lost.
  6. After the dialog opens, enter and submit the line by following the rules in 2.2 Enter move lines above.

2.4 Review submitted lines and handle failed lines

  1. Whether you just submitted a new line or reopened an existing move order from query results, submitted lines are reviewed on the New Move work page. The page shows the order number, the 【Finish】 button, and the submitted lines.
  2. After submission, each line shows a status icon:
    • Success icon: Done.
    • Todo icon: To Do.
    • Failure icon: Failed.
  3. Single-tap Done or Failed lines to open a read-only detail dialog showing status (English), GSKU, REF, source/target locations, quantity, and remarks. It has only an 【OK】 button and cannot be edited.
  4. Follow the error message shown on screen for the failure reason. Common causes include a non-existent target location, insufficient available inventory, or a locked location.
  5. After submitting a new line, if no row is added to the list and the draft row is still at the top, the submission did not succeed. Pull down to refresh to confirm, then tap the draft row, correct it, and resubmit.

2.5 Finalize the move order

  1. Tap the 【Finish】 button on the New Move work page to close the current move order.
  2. In the verified case for this document, when the line was already completed, tapping 【Finish】 returned directly to the move list with no extra confirmation dialog.
  3. After finalization, the move order status becomes Done.

Result: the move order is finalized, lines record the move results, and inventory is adjusted per the move lines.

3. Notes

3.1 Status flow

Move orders flow as follows:

text
To Do (0) → Processing (2) → Done (1)

There is also a Cancelled status (-1):

  • To Do: created, but no line has been moved successfully yet.
  • Processing: at least one line has moved successfully; work can continue. The system updates this status automatically after a line moves; there is no manual switch.
  • Done: order closed; can be opened to view details.
  • Cancelled: a dialog shows "Movement order has been cancelled" and cannot be opened.

Each line also has its own status: To Do, Done, Failed.

3.2 Inventory impact

  • Moves do not change total stock, only location distribution: source location decreases, target location increases.
  • Each line adjusts inventory as soon as submission succeeds, so a line marked Done means the inventory has already moved. Adjustments are visible on desktop Inventory Management - Inventory Log.
  • A Failed line does not mean inventory moved. Resolve the cause and resubmit; do not treat it as done.

3.3 On-site move rules

  • To start a new on-site move, the first scan on the Move home page must be a location, not a SKU. Scanning a non-location shows "Scan location to start inventory move".
  • On the work page, to start a new line, scanning a source location opens the create-line dialog. Scanning a non-location here shows "Scan From Location to start new movement.".
  • One move order can be completed across multiple scans; lines can be added until finalized.

4. FAQ

Q1: Why can scanning a product not start a new move?

A1: A new on-site move starts with the source location, not a SKU scan. Scan the source location first to open the inventory-query page, then tap 【Start Move】 to confirm and open the work page.

Q2: What is the row at the top of the list with a red remark?

A2: It is a local draft, which means this move has not been submitted yet and the inventory has not moved yet. A common case is when the source and target locations are far apart: staff first scan the source location and GSKU at the source location, save that move as a draft, then walk to the target location and scan or enter the target location before submitting. On successful submission, the draft is cleared and the row becomes a normal line. If you back out by accident, the draft row is still at the top when you re-enter the work page; tap that draft row to continue editing with the original content. Note that there is only one draft per device, not one per move order, so the draft row may also come from a previous unfinished move order.

Q3: Why does a move line show as failed?

A3: Follow the error message shown on screen. Common causes include a non-existent target location, insufficient available inventory, or a locked location. Verify source/target locations and inventory, then resubmit. Do not treat a failed line as completed.

Q4: Can a finalized move order be edited?

A4: Done orders cannot be continued or edited on the PDA, but can be opened to view details. To adjust, use desktop Inventory Management - Move Operations, or create a new move order.

Q5: Can I force-complete with unfinished lines?

A5: In the verified case for this document, tapping 【Finish】 on a move order whose line was already completed returned directly to the list. If you have unfinished lines on your screen, follow the live prompt shown by the PDA before closing the move order.

Q6: Does a move change total inventory?

A6: No. A move only transfers stock between source and target locations; the total stays the same. Each line adjusts inventory immediately on submission, visible on desktop Inventory Management - Inventory Log.

Q7: Can a move order be cancelled?

A7: Move orders can be cancelled on desktop. Cancelled orders show "Movement order has been cancelled" on the PDA and cannot be continued. Uncancelled To Do, Processing, and Done orders can be opened normally.
