Print Box Labels
1. Scenario
A box label identifies an inbound carton. After submitting an inbound forecast, whether customers must print box labels depends on the warehouse operation rule and the customer service agreement.
Customers should print and attach a matching label to each carton when the warehouse receives by box, the inbound order contains multiple cartons, or cartons contain mixed SKUs.
2. Steps
Prerequisites
Confirm the following before shipment:
- The inbound forecast has been submitted and approved by the warehouse.
- The box count, box numbers, and packing details match the actual shipment.
- The warehouse or customer service team has confirmed whether GWMS box labels are required.
2.1 Confirm whether box labels are required
Print box labels when:
- The warehouse requires box-level scanning during receiving.
- The inbound order contains multiple cartons that must be checked individually.
- The inbound order contains multiple SKUs or mixed cartons.
- Receiving exceptions and putaway status must be traced by carton.
- The warehouse explicitly requires GWMS box labels on outer cartons.
2.2 Attach box labels
Before shipment:
- Attach one matching box label to each outer carton.
- Place the label on a flat and easy-to-scan surface.
- Do not cover the barcode or QR code.
- Do not reuse one box label on multiple cartons.
- If a carton is labeled on multiple sides, make sure each label uses the same box number.
Result: every carton has the correct box number, and each barcode or QR code is clear and scannable.
3. Notes
3.1 What box labels are used for
A box label usually includes the inbound order number, box number, barcode, or QR code. The warehouse can use it to locate the inbound order, receive by box, and trace exceptions or putaway status by carton.
3.2 Box labels and SKU labels
A box label is attached to an outer carton and identifies the box. A SKU label is attached to a product or product package and identifies the product. See Print SKU Labels for product labeling requirements.
3.3 Print quantity
Box labels are normally printed by actual carton count. For example, an inbound shipment with 10 cartons should use 10 labels with separate box numbers. Do not reuse one box number.
4. FAQ
Q1: Must customers print box labels?
A1: Print box labels when the warehouse receives by box, the shipment contains multiple cartons, or cartons contain mixed SKUs. For other cases, follow the warehouse operation rule and customer service agreement.
Q2: Can the warehouse receive goods without box labels?
A2: It depends on the warehouse rule. Even if manual receiving is allowed, missing box labels can increase checking time and make carton-level exception tracing harder.
Q3: Where should a box label be attached?
A3: Attach it to a flat and easy-to-scan surface on the outer carton. Do not cover the barcode or QR code, and do not use one label on multiple cartons.
