Add a SKU in GWMS
Updated: 2026-04-13
1. Scenario
A SKU is the business code used for receiving, inventory, outbound, and stock count operations. Customer users create SKUs under existing product records so that each color, size, bundle, or packaging version can be managed separately.
Use this guide when a product already exists and you need to add a specific SKU for later warehouse operations.
2. Operation Guide
Prerequisites
Confirm the following before creating a SKU:
- Your customer account can access
GWMS-Product Management-SKU. - The product has already been created in
GWMS-Product Management-Product. - SKU code, label rules, dimensions, weight, and package information are ready.
- If the warehouse uses fixed label or GSKU rules, confirm the naming rule with the warehouse before saving.
2.1 Open the SKU page
Menu path: GWMS-Product Management-SKU
- Sign in to GWMS.
- Expand
Product Management. - Click
SKU. - Confirm that the page shows the 【Add】 button.
2.2 Open the Add dialog
Click 【Add】 on the SKU list page.
GWMS opens the SKU creation dialog. The dialog contains fields such as product name, SKU, UPC, FN SKU, SN, product dimensions, package dimensions, and product value.
2.3 Select product and enter codes
- Select the parent product in 【Product Name】.
- Enter the SKU code in 【SKU】.
- Fill in 【UPC】, 【FN SKU】, 【SN】, and other code fields when required by your business.
- Upload a product image if needed.
The SKU field is required. If the same product has multiple variants, use a different SKU for each variant.
2.4 Enter dimensions, weight, and package information
Enter product dimensions and package dimensions according to the actual goods.
If the page requires both metric and imperial values, fill in the values according to the field labels. Add product value and business attributes when needed.
Dimensions and weight affect receiving, putaway, packaging, and some billing rules. Use confirmed data instead of estimates.
2.5 Submit and check the result
Click 【Confirm】 after all required fields are complete.
After submission, close the dialog and return to the SKU list. Search by product name, SKU, or created time to confirm that the new SKU appears in the list.
Result: The SKU record is created. The warehouse can continue with SKU review if the business process requires review.
3. Notes
3.1 Why a product is required before creating a SKU
The product record defines the product family. The SKU identifies the specific variant used by warehouse operations. Without a product, the SKU has no clear product relationship.
3.2 Fields that affect warehouse operations
Pay special attention to:
- SKU code: used for receiving, inventory, and outbound identification.
- GSKU or label rules: used for warehouse labeling or scanning.
- Dimensions and weight: used for warehouse handling, packaging, and billing.
- Package information: used for packaging decisions and outbound preparation.
3.3 Next step after adding a SKU
After saving, check the SKU list again. If warehouse review is required, ask the warehouse to continue with SKU Review.
If the SKU is part of first-time inventory setup, continue with Initial Setup.
4. FAQ
Q1: Why can't I find the product in the Add SKU dialog?
A1: Check whether the product has been created successfully in GWMS-Product Management-Product.
Q2: How should SKU and GSKU be named?
A2: Use the coding rule confirmed by your team. If the warehouse uses a specific label or scanning rule, confirm the rule with the warehouse before creating SKUs.
Q3: Can a newly added SKU be used immediately?
A3: Not always. Customer-side creation only saves the SKU record. If the workflow requires warehouse review, the warehouse must approve the SKU before it can be used in later operations.
