Put Away Inbound Goods in GWMS

1. Scenario

Putaway is used after inbound goods have been received. The warehouse assigns received SKUs to storage locations so that inventory can be queried and used for later outbound operations.

This guide is for warehouse operators handling goods that have been received, including the received part of an incomplete arrival. The page provides SKU, box, and pallet putaway modes. Pallet-only orders have pallet mode selected and the other two modes disabled. This guide does not cover PDA operations or goods that have not been approved and received.

2. Steps

Prerequisites

  • Your account can access GWMS-Inbound Management-Inbound Forecast.
  • Your account has putaway permission.
  • The target order has been approved and has received quantities still awaiting putaway. You do not need to wait for the entire shipment to arrive.
  • Target storage locations have been created in GWMS.
  • If one SKU needs to be split across multiple locations, confirm the quantity for each location before submitting.
  • To find an item quickly on the putaway page, search by SKU, product name, or GSKU.
  • If the site uses a scanner, receiving transaction number, or box number to locate tasks, open GWMS-Inbound Management-Scan Putaway first, then continue to the putaway page.

2.1 Find an order with received goods

Go to GWMS-Inbound Management-Inbound Forecast and search by order or tracking number. Received quantities pending putaway can be processed before the entire shipment arrives.

Putaway action on a partially received order

Legend (follow the red arrows):

  1. Open 【Inbound Forecast】 under 【Inbound Management】.
  2. Check the target order's status. The example is 【Partial】, so its received goods can already be put away.
  3. Click the row's 【Putaway】 action.

You can also use 【Scan Putaway】 in the left menu shown in the image. Scan or enter an inbound order, receiving transaction, or box number, check the result, and click 【Start Putaway】. Pallet-only orders do not need placeholder boxes. If no receiving record is found, check that receiving has been completed for those goods.

2.2 Check the mode, locations, and quantities

The page provides 【Shelf by SKU】, 【Shelf by Box】, and 【Put away pallets】. Pallet-only orders remain in pallet mode, with the other two disabled. Table cells display the numbers only; the order header and summary retain the unit.

This example assigns six received pallets to two locations:

  1. Check the order, warehouse, and quantity pending putaway.
  2. Enter the first actual 【Destination Location】 and set 【Quantity on Shelf】 to 2.
  3. Click 【Add Location】, enter the second location, and set its quantity to 4.
  4. After completing all location rows, check that the SKU is selected and the assigned total is six.

Assigning six pallets to two locations

Legend (page regions):

  1. 【Put away pallets】 is selected.
  2. Available / already put away / pending putaway shows 6 / 0 / 6.
  3. The two locations receive 2 and 4 pallets. A-007 and A-010 are examples; use actual available locations in your warehouse.
  4. 【Add Location】 adds a split row. Leave some quantity unassigned on the first row before adding another.
  5. 【Batch Putaway】 submits selected tasks.

Entering locations or adding split rows may clear the selection. Check it again before submitting. Assigned quantities must not exceed the quantity pending putaway. If only two pallets are physically stored this time, submit two and leave the rest pending.

Ordinary SKU putaway also assigns locations and quantities. Box mode selects received boxes and assigns a common location to their contents. The header's 【Batch】 action can set the same location for several selected records.

2.3 Submit this putaway

Check the selected rows, locations, and quantities, then use 【Batch Putaway】 in the image above. GWMS refreshes the page and creates putaway records after success. This page has no direct undo action. If a count or location is wrong, review the records and follow the warehouse's correction process.

When the first six pallets are put away and four have not arrived, the order remains 【Partial】. Receive and put away the remaining four when they arrive. Do not force-complete the whole order just to finish the first batch.

2.4 Check the result

After all goods have been received and put away, the order becomes 【Fully Put Away】. The image below shows the header detail of a completed ten-pallet example.

All ten pallets received and put away

Legend (result regions):

  1. The status is 【Fully Put Away】.
  2. Forecast, received, and put-away quantities are all ten pallets.

Use 【Putaway Records】 to check location details by order, SKU, or location. Order details also show receiving/putaway progress and remaining quantities. Completion result: this batch's putaway records and location inventory exist and match the goods stored. Continue later work if the order still has unreceived or pending-putaway quantities.

3. Notes

3.1 Where to check results

Use GWMS-Inbound Management-Putaway Records to check submitted putaway details. Search by inbound order number, SKU/GSKU, location, or putaway time. You can also return to the inbound forecast list to verify the order status.

3.2 Status changes

  • The receiving status 【Done】 means the order has finished receiving. Goods from a partial receipt can also be put away.
  • SKU rows not yet put away show unfinished status on the putaway page.
  • If ten pallets are forecast and six have been received and put away, the order remains 【Partial】 while four await arrival. This does not mean that the first six failed putaway.
  • Saving a later receipt can show 【Done】. Submitting part of a fully received order for putaway can show 【Partially Put Away】. Check the remaining putaway quantity in either case.
  • All goods must be received and put away before the order becomes 【Fully Put Away】.

3.3 Multiple-location putaway

If one SKU is stored in multiple locations, split the quantity into multiple location rows. Do not write the total quantity into one location if the goods are physically stored in different locations.

For pallet SKUs, quantities still mean pallets. This workflow records how many pallets of a SKU are in each location. It does not record individual items inside a pallet or assign an identity, loan/return history, or replacement history to each physical pallet. Follow the warehouse's handling process for splitting or replacing pallets; do not alter counts to stand in for those actions.

3.4 Page validation

GWMS validates the following before submission:

  • At least one SKU or box must be selected.
  • Putaway quantity must be a positive integer.
  • Selected SKUs or boxes must have target locations.
  • Putaway quantity cannot exceed the available quantity.

3.5 Putaway sheet and detail review

If the site needs a paper task sheet, use 【Print Put Away List】 from the 【More】 menu on the inbound forecast list. Choose the print mode according to the actual operation method, such as by box or by SKU.

After putaway is complete, use 【Putaway Records】 to trace where a SKU was stored. To check receiving differences and pending putaway quantity together, open the inbound order details and view 【Receiving / Putaway Status】.

For location, quantity, box number, and operator tracing, refer to the Putaway Records guide. For put away list printing, refer to the Print Inbound Operation Documents guide.

4. FAQ

Q1: Why can't I see the 【Put Away】 button?

A1: Check that the order is approved and has received quantities pending putaway. Partial receipts can be processed; goods that have not arrived cannot. Complete the earlier steps for orders still awaiting review or receiving. If status and quantities are correct but the action is missing, check permissions or locate the received goods through 【Scan Putaway】.

Q2: How do I put one SKU into multiple locations?

A2: On the SKU row, use 【Add Location】 and split the quantity into multiple location rows. Confirm that the total does not exceed the available quantity.

Q3: Why did the order not become 【Fully Put Away】 after submission?

A3: Check both unreceived and pending-putaway quantities. The order can remain 【Partial】 while goods await arrival. If all goods are received but some remain unassigned, continue putaway. 【Fully Put Away】 requires both receiving and putaway to be complete.

Q4: Why is 【Batch Putaway】 unavailable?

A4: Check whether you have selected rows, entered target locations, and entered valid positive quantities.

Q5: Where can I view putaway records?

A5: Go to GWMS-Inbound Management-Putaway Records and search by inbound order number, SKU, or operation time.

Q6: Why am I asked to select a SKU after entering locations?

A6: Entering a location or adding a split row may clear the selection. After completing all locations and quantities, check the selected rows again, verify the total, and submit.

Q7: Why are SKU and box putaway disabled for my pallet order?

A7: Pallet-only orders use pallet quantities throughout the task. They remain in pallet mode and currently cannot include piece-unit goods or box groups.
