Use GWMS to Process Warehouse Transfer Operations

Updated: 2026-05-21

1. Scenario

Definition: Warehouse Transfer Operations is used to move existing stock from one storage location to another inside the same warehouse. The page records the transfer order number, source location, target location, SKU, quantity, and current transfer result.

Purpose: The warehouse team can use the transfer-order page to create and trace transfers by order number, and can also start quick transfers directly from Inventory Management when reviewing stock by location.

Applicable scenarios:

  • Shelf rearrangement inside the warehouse.
  • Correcting stock that was placed in the wrong location.
  • Moving stock from a reserve location to a picking location.
  • Internal location adjustment for one SKU or one selected group of SKUs.

Not applicable:

  • If the issue is an inventory quantity mismatch, use Inventory Count first instead of transfer.
  • If you only need to review the current stock result, use Inventory Management.
  • If you need to trace why inventory changed, use GWMS-Warehouse Operations-Inventory Records.

3. Additional Notes

3.1 Transfer statuses visible on the current English page

  • In Transfer: The transfer order is still in the transfer process on the current page.
  • Moved: The visible order or detail result has already been moved.

The current page also shows the Transfer Completed action in the list, which is used to continue processing the order from the list page.

3.2 Impact on inventory

After a transfer is processed successfully:

  • Stock is reduced from the source location.
  • Stock is increased in the target location.
  • A related transfer order remains available for later review by order number.

Transfer does not correct an inventory-count difference. If the quantity itself is wrong, confirm the discrepancy through Inventory Count instead of moving the incorrect stock to another location.

3.3 Difference between the two entries

  • Warehouse Transfer Operations: Best when you need to create, track, and review transfers by transfer order number.
  • Inventory Management-Location Perspective: Best when you are already reviewing location stock and want to move one line or a small selected group quickly.

Both entries affect inventory and can be traced later through the transfer order list and inventory-related records.

4. FAQ

Q1: Why can't I create a valid transfer if the target location matches the source location?

A1: Transfer requires stock to move to a different location. Choose a different destination location before you submit the transfer.

Q2: What should I review before I submit a transfer?

A2: Confirm the source location, target location, SKU, transfer quantity, and available quantity first. The transfer quantity should not exceed the available stock in the source location.

Q3: Where can I review the transfer result after a quick transfer from Inventory Management?

A3: Open GWMS-Warehouse Operations-Warehouse Transfer Operations and review the created transfer order by transfer order number, status, and detail result.

Q4: When should I use the transfer-order page instead of quick transfer?

A4: Use Warehouse Transfer Operations when you want stronger order-level tracking, a clear transfer order number, and a dedicated page for reviewing transfer details.
