Complete Secondary Sorting in GWMS

Last updated: 2026-04-13

1. Scenario

Secondary sorting is used after orders have been grouped into a wave. Warehouse staff scan SKU barcodes and place items into the bin shown by GWMS.

Use this guide when a wave has been created and the warehouse needs to sort items by bin, print labels, confirm packaging material, or mark exceptions.

2. Steps

Prerequisites

  • Your account can access GWMS-Outbound Management-Secondary Sorting.
  • The target orders have been waved.
  • The wave is still not shipped.
  • The warehouse, bin layout, and printer are ready.
  • If SKUs require serial numbers, prepare serial number barcodes.
  • If packaging confirmation is required, prepare packaging material barcodes.

2.1 Open Secondary Sorting and confirm layout

Go to GWMS-Outbound Management-Secondary Sorting.

Secondary sorting page

Select the warehouse.

Select warehouse

Before scanning the wave, confirm the bin layout. The default layout is usually 4 x 4, and bins are displayed with numbers such as 11, 12, and 13.

2.2 Scan the wave

Scan or enter the wave number in the 【Wave No.】 field and press Enter.

Scan wave number

When the wave loads successfully, order cards appear on the right side and the cursor moves to the SKU field.

If the wave does not exist, GWMS shows a missing wave prompt. If the wave status is not valid for sorting, GWMS shows a status-related failure prompt.

2.3 Scan SKUs and sort into bins

Scan SKU barcodes in the SKU field. GWMS matches the SKU with an unfinished order and highlights the target bin.

Each successful scan increases the scanned quantity on the order card. When all SKUs in a bin are scanned, the bin enters completed status.

Scan SKU and check target bin

If the SKU requires serial number management, GWMS opens the serial number scanning window first. The SKU is not completed until required serial numbers are scanned.

2.4 Handle labels, packaging, and exceptions

When a bin is completed, GWMS sends a print request automatically. If the label does not print correctly, click 【Reprint Label】 on the order card.

For multi-SKU orders, GWMS may open a packaging confirmation window after all SKUs are scanned. Scan the packaging material barcode to confirm the recommended material, or override it according to the site process.

If an order needs manual handling, click 【Mark Exception】 on the order card, enter the reason, and confirm.

2.5 Finish the wave

After all required bins are completed, click 【Complete All】.

Complete all bins

GWMS submits the sorting result and shows a success prompt.

3. Notes

3.1 Bin numbering

Bin numbers are generated by row and column. For example, the first row may show 11, 12, 13, and 14.

3.2 Printing and packaging

GWMS downloads the label package after the wave loads. Use 【Reprint Label】 for a single order if the label needs to be resent. Use the printer configuration entry if the on-site printer changes.

3.3 Submission checks

Waves must be in a valid not-shipped status. SKUs with serial number management must have all required serial numbers scanned before final submission.

4. FAQ

Q1: Why can't I enter the wave number?

A1: Select a warehouse first. The wave number and SKU fields remain disabled until a warehouse is selected.

Q2: What should I do if GWMS says the wave does not exist or the wave status is invalid?

A2: Go to wave management and check whether the wave number is correct and whether the wave is still not shipped.

Q3: Why is 【Complete All】 still disabled after scanning SKUs?

A3: Check whether any bin is still incomplete or waiting for packaging confirmation. All required bins must be completed before final submission.

Q4: What should I do if the label did not print?

A4: Check whether label loading succeeded, then click 【Reprint Label】 on the order card. If the printer changed, update printer configuration first.

Q5: What should I do if I scanned the wrong SKU?

A5: Check whether the scanned barcode belongs to the current wave and whether the SKU has already reached the required quantity.
